Help! My vagina is drying out and I’m only 39. I thought this wasn’t supposed to happen until menopause. My husband goes down on me and his saliva helps. We also use KY jelly. But still, I’m too dry. Is there anything I can do?

Sorry you’re developing this problem at the relatively young age of 39. The first thing you need to know is that menopause doesn’t happen at 50. It begins much earlier, typically in the mid-forties, but many women notice the beginnings of vaginal dryness in their early forties or late thirties, as you have. Saliva can certainly help. I encourage your husband to give you lots of oral attention. And it’s good that you’re using a lubricant–but KY has never been my favorite. I suggest you experiment with other lubes that are available pharmacies, for example, Probe, Slippery Stuff or Astroglide. . They’re silkier and slipperier than KY. Apply them liberally several times during lovemaking. If they begin to dry out, apply more, or refresh them with saliva or a little water. Keep a glass of water by your bed. You or your husband can dip a finger into the glass and then caress your genitals to re-activate the lubricant. My wife and I have found this very helpful not only resolving the vaginal dryness but taking away the pain associated with it. It’s not as “goopy” as KY, feels much more natural for both of us.
Hope this helps,
